The Spiritual Leader: A Guidebook for Pastors and Christian Leaders by Paul Chappell (Jun 30, 2008)
I found this book very helpful. I would recommend it to anyone in the ministry especially new pastors and missionaries.
The first part of the book deals with what a spiritual leader is and how to be one. Then Pastor Chappell goes into a very “down to earth mode” and even shares his daily schedule and what computer programs he uses to stay organized.
Although some of the thing do not apply to us in a third world country, it was very insightful and very practical and I was able to glean from his experience and advice.

A Return to First Century Missions by Ernest Gambrell
Dr. Gambrell has written several books, but this one is different in that it breaks down the why and the how of missions by an in-depth study of the ministry of the apostle Paul. He not only compares the modern mission movement of today to that of Paul’s time, but he breaks down the how and the why of missions. This book could be used as a concise manual for a mission class, and definitely a good tool for new and veteran missionaries alike. Chapters headings include: “New Testament Missionary Work,” “Re-Evaluating Modern Missionary Work,” “Common Sense the Enemy,” “Organizing a Church.” I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in missiology.

As far as clean suspense thrillers go, all of the book I have read by Joel C. Rosenberg get an A+ from me. The books in his different series must be read in order to keep the continuity, which allows him to jump right into the action from book to book. I have not read any of his nonfiction books, but I can recommend the fiction book that he has written. They are very clean and have a gospel message through each series. If you are looking for an exciting page turner, then you will not be disappointed whit any of his fiction book.

Cross Cultural Connections by Duane Elmer
Author Duane Elmer has a unique insight to different cultures around the world. In this book he goes into sever different aspects of what it is like to enter a different culture. He also spends time discussing re-entry for those going back to their birth culture. This is a great resource for those that are getting ready to go to the foreign field as a career missionary or a short term missionary.
